Another day, another drop.
Well, not today……..
I’ve been playing around with using CBD drops in all sorts of ways, and I’m excited to share them with you.
Many people take CBD oil by putting it directly under the tongue. That part of your mouth is dense with capillaries so the CBD hits your bloodstream quickly. This is known as the ‘sublingual method’ and it is the most popular method of ingesting CBD.
But there are lots of different ways you can enjoy using CBD drops that are just as effective as putting them under the tongue.
IN COFFEE
I didn’t think my morning brew could get much better until I tried adding a couple of drops of CBD to my cup of coffee. Not only does it even the keel of my buzz, but the subtle earthiness really adds to the flavour of my fresh grounds.
ON A SQUARE OF CHOCOLATE
Just add a couple drops on top of your choc before you chomp. Cacao and CBD are like botanical bread and butter:, complementary to each other.
I’ll usually go for at least 70% dark chocolate and would highly recommend an Om Bar.
IN A SALAD DRESSING
CBD loves fat so it can be well absorbed, so what better company would olive oil and mayonnaise be!? Add in some vinegar as well and for extra anti-inflammatory power a twist of freshly ground black pepper.
DESSERT, ANYONE?
Everybody knows that strawberries and cream are a winning combination. Add a couple of drops of CBD to your cream for an extra delight.
SWASH
I’ve seen a couple of studies compare sublingual CBD administration to what’s called buccal (washing around the mouth for absorption through the cheeks). Buccal resulted in higher blood levels of CBD. So you might like to try adding one or two drops of CBD to a tablespoon of MCT/coconut/olive oil and giving it a swash around the mouth.
SOME COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT CBD AND FOOD
How many CBD drops should I put in food?
Your daily CBD dosage depends very much on your unique endocannabinoid system and your individual circumstances – there is no one-size-fits-all. But with new users we would always recommend starting low and then working your way up as necessary. (The FSA in the UK recommends an upper limit of 70 mg per day.) A 10ml bottle provides about 200 drops, so a 10ml bottle of 200mg CBD oil will dispense roughly 1mg per drop. Our most popular strength CBD oil, the 500mg drops (containing 5% pure CBD) equates to 2.5mg CBD per drop. If you’re just starting out, we’d recommend beginning with around a 5mg dosage each day depending on your circumstances. So that would mean a couple of drops from a 10ml bottle of 200mg, in a drink or on a snack, two to three times a day. Read more on how to find the right CBD dose.
Can I drink water after taking CBD oil?
If you take CBD sublingually, ideally you should wait at least 30-60 seconds before you drink anything so as not to disrupt the absorption process. If you consume CBD in food or drink, or topically, then it’s absolutely fine to drink normally as it won’t affect absorption.
